Addiction counselling at The Counselling HUB looks past the behaviour to the pain underneath it. Using Internal Family Systems and DBT, we help you understand the parts that reach for relief and build genuine tools for cravings, triggers, and the emotions beneath them.
This space is for you if
- You feel trapped in a cycle you cannot control on your own
- Guilt and shame follow every use - then isolation
- Substances or a behaviour have started taking priority over life
- You want to stop but cannot picture coping without it
- It is a behaviour, not a substance - gambling, gaming, or more
How we approach recovery
We treat addiction with curiosity, not condemnation. The goal is a life that feels worth being present for - defined by goals we set together, whether that is harm reduction or abstinence.
The recovery path
- 1
Safety & trust first
We build a relationship where nothing you say is met with judgment - including relapse.
- 2
Find the driver
We explore the history and the underlying pain, trauma, or stress the addiction has been managing.
- 3
Build the life
We set realistic goals, strengthen resilience, and repair relationships so recovery has something to stand on.

Book a session through our online portal - no pressure, no commitment. It is a chance to ask questions and see if working together feels right.
✓ A good fit for
- Anyone whose use is harming their life and wants change
- People tired of the shame cycle
- Those wanting to address the “why,” not just the “what”
! When another path fits better
- Active medical detox - we help coordinate that first
- Intensive inpatient needs, before outpatient counselling
"Relapse is not failure - it is information. We use it to understand your triggers, not to prove anything about your worth.
If you are not sure where to start, you can also explore trauma counselling or men's counselling. You can always book a consultation to talk it through first.
Addiction Counselling - Common Questions
Not necessarily. We work with both harm reduction and abstinence models. Our primary goal is to help you achieve a healthier, safer, and more fulfilling life, based on goals we set together.
Never. Relapse is often a part of the recovery process. We view it as an opportunity to learn more about your triggers and adjust our strategies, not as a failure.
Yes, addiction affects the whole family. We can incorporate family sessions to help your loved ones understand the nature of addiction and how best to support your recovery.
We treat behavioral addictions (like gambling, gaming, or internet use) with the same evidence-based approaches used for substance addictions, focusing on the underlying emotional drivers.
Recovery is an ongoing journey. The length of counselling depends on your individual needs and goals. We will regularly assess your progress to ensure you are getting the right level of support.
