Trauma counselling at The Counselling HUB helps you process painful experiences without re-living them. We use trauma-informed, somatic, and IFS approaches to help your nervous system recognise that the danger has passed - so the past loosens its grip on your present.

Trauma can show up as

  • Feeling constantly on high alert, bracing for the next thing
  • Intrusive memories, nightmares, or sudden waves of panic
  • A body that stays tense even when you know you are safe
  • Avoiding places, people, or activities that feel charged
  • Numbness, disconnection, or exhaustion from carrying it

The phased approach

  1. 1

    Build the foundation

First we grow your coping skills and grounding tools so hard emotions feel survivable.

  2. 2

    Process gently

Only when you are ready do we approach the memories - always within your window of tolerance.

  3. 3

    Integrate

We help the past take its rightful place as memory, so it carries less charge in the present.

Trauma Counselling - Common Questions

You only share what you are comfortable sharing. We can do significant healing work by focusing on how the trauma is impacting you today and building coping skills, without needing to recount every detail.

Being trauma-informed means we understand the widespread impact of trauma and recognize its signs. We prioritize your safety, choice, and control in every aspect of our work together.

Somatic therapies focus on the connection between the mind and body. They help you tune into physical sensations and release the tension and stress that trauma often leaves trapped in the nervous system.

Trauma is defined by your experience of an event, not the event itself. If an experience left you feeling overwhelmed, unsafe, and continues to affect your well-being, it is valid and deserving of support.

Therapy cannot erase the past, and it does not promise to. What it can do is help you process painful memories so they tend to carry less intense emotional charge over time, so the past has less grip on your present. Everyone's process is different.
