Jason Bains, MACP, RCC, RP (Qualifying), is the founder and lead practitioner at The Counselling HUB in Nanaimo, BC. He works with individuals, couples, and families navigating a wide range of mental health concerns and difficult periods in their lives.
Jason’s approach is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in evidence-based therapies, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), somatic approaches, and attachment theory. He draws from these approaches based on what fits each person rather than expecting people to fit into a single model.
The passion Jason brings to his work has been shaped by his own experience of navigating painful and complex periods in life. He knows what it is like to place painful experiences in a locked box and avoid opening it. He also knows the difference it can make to have the right professionals beside you—people who help you feel safe enough to make space for what is inside, approach it with curiosity and compassion, and begin to heal.
Jason understands what it can feel like to be overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next. He also knows how vulnerable it can be to ask for help, especially for the first time, and he does not take that trust lightly.
Your stories may be different, but the emotions underneath them are often familiar: fear, shame, anger, grief, loneliness, or something difficult to name. Healing is rarely a straight line. There may be pauses, setbacks, and moments when moving forward feels difficult. That is okay. Jason will meet you where you are and work alongside you at a pace that feels manageable, in a space that is honest, curious, and grounded.
Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Jason lives in Nanaimo with his wife and twin boys. He does not position himself as someone with all the answers, but as someone willing to walk beside you as you better understand yourself, heal what you have been carrying, and find a way forward.
