Ontario Virtual Counselling
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about virtual therapy in Ontario, how sessions work, and what to expect.
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If something feels stuck, heavy, or repetitive, whether it is anxiety, a relationship pattern, grief, or simply feeling not like yourself, counselling can help you understand it and move forward. If you are unsure, book a consultation through our online portal to talk it through.
The first session is a conversation to get to know each other. Your therapist will ask what brought you in and what you are hoping for, and you will begin to map out where to focus. There is no pressure to share anything you are not ready to discuss, and you set the pace throughout.
Sessions are held through a secure, encrypted video platform. You will receive a link before your appointment and connect from any private space in Ontario. All you need is a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet place where you feel comfortable talking.
Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person sessions for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Many clients find that being in their own environment actually helps them feel more at ease and open.
Yes. Everything you share is confidential, protected by law and the standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). There are a small number of legal exceptions, such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, which your therapist will explain clearly at the start of your work together.
Sessions are typically around 50 minutes. Many people start weekly to build momentum, then space sessions out as things stabilize. The rhythm is flexible and always shaped around your needs.
We draw on evidence-based, trauma-informed modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), somatic practices, and attachment theory. Rather than forcing one method, we tailor the approach to you and what you are working through.
Yes. Alongside individual counselling, we work with couples using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and with families using Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), helping rebuild connection and communication.
Many extended health plans in Ontario cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so it is best to confirm your specific benefits directly with your insurer. A receipt is provided after each session for reimbursement.
The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is the regulatory body that governs the practice of psychotherapy in Ontario. Our therapist is registered with the CRPO as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), which means you are receiving care from a regulated professional held to strict ethical and practice standards.
The easiest way is through our online booking portal. You can schedule a session or consultation at a time that works for you, no phone tag required.
